July 19th, 2009 - Travel Day

Nikki with a big smile!Today was travel day. We left La Vergne around 1:30. We made an extended stop at a rest area in Kentucky where we helped a family from Indiana change a tire. We also visited a KFC that was out of chicken. Crazy! Our trip took a total of 7 1/2 hours. We got into the hotel and found the essentials (the pool, the ice, and the vending machines) and now we're off to bed. We'll be updating this page each night so check back each day to find out what we've been up to. Some of the teens will share their thoughts as well as we progress through the week.

July 20th, 2009 - First Convention Day

Group at the convention. Preston Dakota's floor cone obsession

Today was our first day at the convention. We completed the registration process and then spent a good portion of the day at the Creation Museum. It was an interesting experience and revealed some interesting things about our public school system to say the least. It was crowded but I think each of the teens came away with some good information and a good experience. The youth speaker tonight was a great communicator and held the audience's attention troughout. We were challenged to evaluate the skills God has given us and encouraged to use them to glorify God. Of course we had a good time hanging out afterwards and will be up in about five hours to do it all again. :)

On our first full day we woke up pretty early to go to register and get our badges so we can go in to the conference/ competitions. Our hotel breakfast was held in the Grand Room. After the registration, Steve was catching up with some old buddies so Michael led us to explore the conference center (which meant killing time by going up and down escalators). Shortly after getting bored from going up and down escalators, we ventured to the Creation Museum. In the Creation Museum, we learned the difference between people's beliefs and God's true word. It was very educational, interesting, and fun. After the Museum we went to Skyline Chili which I would not recommend. After the terrible food we toured around the city waiting for Austin's competition. We got yummy ice cream. After Austin's competition we came back to the hotel where I am writing this now. I had tons of fun and I can't wait for tomorrow.
