Church Pastor

The first meeting of the LaVergne Free Will Baptist Mission was held on April 28, 1968 in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Macon D. Green, Jr. on Sanford Road with 17 adults in attendance and 6 children. Services were conducted by the Rev. D. L. Sharp. Due to the mission’s growth, it became necessary to find larger facilities and in June of 1969, arrangements were made to rent the LaVergne Civic Auditorium. It was in the Civic Auditorium on June 15, 1969, that the mission held it organizational meeting with 55 persons in attendance. The church consisted of 20 charter members.

The Lord soon provided the means to purchase property on Mason Circle. In the summer of 1970, a chapel building and its furnishings were purchased from Sewart Air Base in Smyrna, for $1.00. In August, 1970, the church entered into the Executive Church Bonds Program for $20,000 to have the building moved on to the property on Mason Circle and renovated. The first meeting in the new facility was in April of 1971. There was a Sunday School enrollment of 80 and a church membership of 39.
